Summary:

Challenge: - A Croatian identity, the sea, the sun, the vegetation... A logo that can be written in all world languages and still not lose its identity. The logo's legibility should be universal in the visual sense, since it is coded by two squares, red and blue, which represent the code of the Republic of Croatia.

Strategy: - Croatia is a country with a warm Mediterranean climate, a crystal clear sea, and more than a thousand islands. As such, it represents a very attractive holiday destination. The names of the country in different languages (CROATIA, CROATIE, KROATIEN, CROAZIA, etc), as well as in its own language( HRVATSKA), have a common fourth letter “A”, which is at the same time the initial letter for the Adriatic sea. Alternating squares represent a visual code for Croatia, while red, white and blue are its colors. The sun shines from the red square, while on the blue square there is a sail boat. In all languages of the world. The rigid two square concept was softened and manufactured manually in the form of a water-color painting, because Croatia has an exceptional sea, and more than a thousand islands. The logo is made in watercolor-calligraphy, and it is easily applied to all sorts of tourist apparel and gift items.

Result: - The new logo of Croatian National Tourist Board has brought Croatia freshness and recognizability in the world tourism market. Its presence on all of the promotional materials and souvenirs reveals to the potential tourists the place of origin—Croatia. The logo itself combines three colors symbolizing Croatia’s natural heritage: blue as a symbol of its clear blue sea and thousand islands, yellow as the vast wheat fields, and green as the thickness of its forests. The award for the Croatian National Tourist Board identity redesign is just one of the many received by one of the world renowned Croatian designers, Boris Ljubicic, and the Croatian National Tourist Board, the national institution for tourism.
