Summary:

Industry Setting - Western Coal is a Western Canadian based coal producer, with a primary market focus on high quality metallurgical coal. The industry has seen extreme market volatility in the last couple of years, in addition to numerous acquisitions and business consolidations.

Challenge - With the volatility present in the marketplace, Western Coal needed to better communicate its solid financial footing and aggressive growth plans to all stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, and the communities in which they do business.

Strategy - Western Coal needed their rebranding efforts to better communicate their varied strengths to all stakeholders. While maintaining naming and identity continuity, the new brand needed to be bold, solid, and trustworthy. Refreshed corporate identity suite, collateral, image library, and financial reports were all refreshed adding energy to their brand, while maintaining a relevant, responsible color palette.

Result - Western Coal received an overwhelming endorsement for their rebranding efforts from all stakeholders, complemented by increased attention from potential investors. Western Coal trades on the AIM and TSX stock exchanges under the symbol “WTN.”
