Vancouver Convention Center


Summary:

Industry Setting/Challenge - The Vancouver Convention Centre was set to open a new building alongside its existing facility that was opened in the mid-80’s. These new, innovative amenities triple the convention centre's capacity and set industry standards in environmental sustainability. With the world’s attention about to turn to Vancouver, it was an opportune moment to champion this facility as the ultimate “inspiration centre.” Working collaboratively with other integrated groups in [the firm's parent company] family, [the firm] was tasked with creating a completely new brand and the seamless delivery of a new creative platform to coincide with the official opening of the new facility.

Strategy - Rather than the usual literal architectural or place-themed logo, [we] developed an identity system that is evocative of the unique feeling one experiences whilst in the new facility. The photography-based logo prominently features the word VANCOUVER to emphasize that the brand is much more than just a facility, but reflective of the entire Vancouver experience. With layered images of water, light and glass, the identity reflects both the spacious, modern feel of the building and its spectacular surroundings, and became the perfect creative foundation for a wide variety of collateral and communications.

Result - The new brand seamlessly permeates all consumer touchpoints from the new logo, print materials and website, to strategic direct marketing work, print and online ads, social media and more. Our team was able to deliver a brand position and a creative vision that will allow the Vancouver Convention Centre to stand apart from the ‘conventional’ convention centre experience.
