2010 REBRAND 100 Winners > merit
Industry: Educational Institutions and Libraries Enterprise Rebrand Country Base: USA Below: Before Images, Rebrand Images, Summary, Credits
Summary:
Industry Setting - A College at the University of Washington (UW) at Seattle which comprises the departments of Architecture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Planning, a center for Real Estate Studies and several interdisciplinary labs.
Challenge - Develop a brand strategy that includes a new name and identity for
the College as well as a comprehensive communications system for the
diverse communities and disciplines that it constitutes.
Strategy - In 2007 we created two visual identity programs for the College of Architecture and Urban Planning: one with the existing name (CAUP) and one with a new name, College of Built Environments (BE), which had been proposed by College leadership. The new name was selected by faculty vote.
Both the name change and visual rebrand needed to accurately reflect the College’s diverse academic and professional communities, align with current and emerging practices and represent the convergence of the constructed world with human and natural systems. Inspiration was drawn from Seattle’s cityscape, totem poles (local heritage/connected identities) and architectural elevations.
Result - A flexible identity system rooted in typography that unites the diverse departments and communities of the College.
