Wildwood School

Summary:

Industry Setting - Since 2000, Wildwood has grown from a ground-breaking elementary school to a K-12 program with a student body twice the original size. Nationally respected as a model of progressive education, the school was facing increasingly competitive pressure for the best and the brightest students in a saturated market.

Challenge - Wildwood needed to distinguish itself from competitor schools and to preserve its identity as a vibrant, welcoming community while emphasizing its academically rigorous programs.

Strategy - KBDA conducted in-depth research, and identified key areas where Wildwood needed to reinvigorate its communications. KBDA helped the school develop a new messaging platform and communications plan. As part of this effort, KBDA created a new identity that would retain the equity of the school’s original tree motif—an ancient symbol for learning—but would distinguish it in an educational market rife with tree symbols. The new logo is based on a simple and graphic leaf shape, where the veins of the leaf reference a labyrinth—an ancient symbol for the journey of self-discovery.

KBDA developed a cohesive literature system and website to reinforce the school’s image with both external and internal audiences (existing families were recognized as key brand ambassadors). At the culmination of this 18-month process, KBDA created a two-volume catalogue that would help parents frame key questions about what kind of school would best help children thrive in an increasingly complex world.

Result - “The new visual identity and materials have resulted in reports from both current parents and prospective parents that indicate the new materials consistently hit their mark. In addition to rave reviews and an increased feeling of pride among our current families, in the first three months of use, admission inquiries grew by nearly 10%. This bodes well at a time of such general economic uncertainty.”
