Summary:
Industry Setting - Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects grew from 3 people in 1994 to 30 people by 2008. DBVW’s changing complexion and pursuit of regional projects has taken the firm outside of their native Rhode Island market and into the larger, highly competitive design pool of the northeast region.
Challenge - DBVW needed to clearly communicate the firm’s contemporary design sensibility, larger size and capacity, while shedding its traditional, lawyerly identity. As DBVW entered new geographic markets, the firm’s graphic look assumed a more important role as an “introduction” to the firm. The brand became an ambassador, reflecting DBVW’s design aesthetic; clarity, strength and simplicity.
Strategy - The DBVW identity system consists of a grouping of lines of specific widths, orientation and color. This loose, but clearly defined graphic system provides endless opportunities for creative application and brand reinforcement, while also complimenting DBVW’s logo without requiring its repetition (and the repetition of the lengthy firm name) in every context.
Result - DBVW has successfully won several new clients and partnerships in the northeast region since targeting geographic growth. There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the refinement of DBVW’s identity, particularly its strength and simplicity.
