Summary: Industry Setting - Northern Ireland Water Ltd is the sole provider of water and sewerage services in Northern Ireland, with over 780,000 domestic, agricultural, commercial and business customers. Challenge - To reposition the organization as it changed status from civil service to ‘GoCo’, or Government owned company. Whilst GoCo status brings a greater degree of flexibility and dynamism, it also brings increased responsibility for financial accountability, corporate governance and environmental and social issues. The new identity had to reflect this change in status and dynamism. Strategy - : We created a strong identity using fluid shapes and wavy lines in shades of blue to reflect the purity of product provided by Northern Ireland Water Ltd. The horizontal lines were a symbol of the continuity of service as the company changed status and the upward curve represents the company’s aspiration to improve as they move forward. The lower case lettering helps the new organisation appear more accessible to its target audience. Result - In developing the new identity we succeeded in uniting a historically disparate organisation that had been divided by directorate, location and length of service into an energised business ready to step up to the challenge afforded by a change in status.
