Summary: Industry Setting - Lithonia Lighting is the world's largest manufacturer of lighting solutions. Their largest division is the outdoor division responsible for nearly $1billion/year in annual sales alone. Challenge - There were several audiences for commercial lighting each with their own set of needs. The primary buyers are specifying engineers who integrate lighting solutions into overall site plans. In addition, these engineers are often given a plan by the designer or architect on the project, so this market was also identified as a primary influencer on the process. Strategy/Result - The branding was a universal success, and is subsequently being explored as a total company solution. Not only did it transform the look and feel of one of Georgia's largest companies, but it changed how Lithonia thought about marketing, branding, and their overall position in the marketplace. As a result, a project underway this year includes a high profile acquisition designed to position Lithonia even more strongly across the high end fixture market, a place where the company previously had not ventured.
