Solaria Rebrand by Factor Design

Summary:

Industry Setting - Solaria is a solar technology company based in Silicon Valley. They have developed breakthrough innovations that make solar cell and module production more efficient, thereby providing the cost savings that will ultimately allow solar energy to compete successfully on the world market.

Challenge - As Solaria’s technology moved towards commercialization, the company needed to present a mature, confident face to the industry—one that could differentiate them from competitors and attract investors, partners, media, and analysts.

Strategy - Solaria takes a practical approach to problem solving. Where competitors see a science problem, Solaria sees an engineering challenge. That means being straightforward and working with partners to create solutions. This is expressed in the brand personality and how Solaria frames its mission: “How do we make solar energy a mainstream reality?” The distinctive new identity also reflects this personality, expressing the power of the sun—not the sun itself.

Result - The rebrand has helped accelerate Solaria’s go-to-market timetable. They secured funding ($50 million) and a long-term cell supply agreement. They are in pilot production and have been featured in Red Herring, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. Furthermore, their partners have all remarked on Solaria’s newfound confidence.
