International Ice Hockey Federation Rebrand by Blue Infinity

Summary:

Industry Setting - Founded in 1908, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is the governing body for the sport of ice hockey and in-line hockey worldwide.

Challenge - Nearly reaching a century of existence, the IIHF was seeking to provide a contemporary, dynamic and coherent new visual expression for the Federation, as well as for all the competitions it organizes worldwide.

Strategy - The objective in redesigning the Federation identity was to develop a clear community around the IIHF and to reinforce the position of the IIHF within the world of ice hockey. The new Federation logo features the silhouette of a hockey player with skatemarks representing a stylized globe. It is set within the recognizable contour of an ice hockey rink.

Result - The new logo and identity have sparked very positive initial reactions, both within the IIHF as well as outside of the organization - including several of the host countries of future IIHF competitions. This distinct shape of the ice hockey rink has quickly become the common denominator between all international ice hockey competitions. Together with its new corporate emblem, the IIHF has deployed a complete line of championship logos based on the new guidelines, applicable to all formats of competition.
