Summary:

First Quadrant is a highly respected investment management firm managing assets of over $20 billion for Fortune 500 companies.

Challenge - The Free Library of Philadelphia is embarking on a massive renovation of their Central Library Branch, which will reassert their position as one of the premier public institutions of Philadelphia. Concurrently, the Library engaged us to create a new identity, brand voice, and completely revamped Web site that would dramatically change how the Library interacts with its customers.

Strategy - The concept of Free emerged as the simplest, clearest unifying brand idea for the Free Library of Philadelphia. It’s a notion that conveys the liberating power of knowledge and learning in the most relevant and credible terms. It is also a strong reference to the city of Philadelphia, the birthing ground of this country’s declaration as a free society.

Result - The Library has enthusiastically embraced the bold new identity and brand voice, launched the ground-breaking new Web site, and is promoting a simpler name for itself: Free.
