Shangri-La Hotels by MetaDesign
15 Reasons Luxury Brands Must Be On Twitter 15 Reasons Luxury Brands Must Be On Twitter

When searching recently for luxury hotels to recommend to a friend planning an upscale event, I was surprised to find that many are not yet on Twitter. In fact it’s not just fine hotels; many luxury product and service brands are just not where a growing number of online users are.

Success certainly loves speed, so it might be time to get started. There are few better tools for enhancing your client and customer relationship-building efforts than Twitter. To help you begin, we’ll spare you the hype and cordon this off as a jargon-free zone. We prefer to appeal to the no-nonsense vigilance in optimizing experiences that qualified you for the “luxury” moniker in the first place.

If you need a brand positioning strategy or even ideas to inspire your tweets, we’d be glad to help or recommend resources. For now, here are 15 of many reasons to get on Twitter. Fast.

1. To convey that you’re a dynamic, forward-thinking brand.

Just about every demographic — age, gender, nationality, income — is online and on Twitter. In fact, Twitter users skew towards upper income individuals with better education than the general population, the very groups that luxury brands target.

2. To go where your customers are.

They are using social media in droves, so be there. ’nuff said.

3. To keep your competitors from having all the Twitter-generated fun (and business).

4. To be found.

When using social media tools, many people stay in that “space” as a hub for searching products, services, companies, and opinions about them. All searches DO NOT begin with Google.

5. To show that your supreme desire is to serve your premium clients and customers.

You cannot serve them if you’re not where they need you to be.

6. To leverage the massive momentum Twitter has garnered from offline media — radio, tv, etc. — and the related daily increase in usage. That boat is certainly lifting all tides.

7. To harness the “know, like, trust” reasons behind buying decisions.

Use this powerful forum to build a relationship with customers and prospects.

8. To provide your clients and prospects with the kinds of valuable tips and information that could come back to you in the form of more business and good will.

In running a luxury hotel, for example, you’re certainly experts in many areas such as event planning, meeting coordination, décor, table settings for five, 200, 1,000, or whatever. Share that.

9. To expand your value.

Item number 8 above could mean that you set up one or two separate Twitter accounts for the sole purpose of sharing information on one or two areas of expertise that can help promote your brand and services indirectly. You become more than a destination that’s known for an unparalleled experience; you become a resource.

10. To promote special offerings and time-sensitive events that your IT folks can’t make happen at your website quickly enough.

11. To offer useful information.

We guarantee you that even your most loyal customers and frequent guests aren’t aware of all the wonderful services and amenities you’ve crafted especially for them. Let them know, and you just might find others helping you “sell” these newly discovered benefits.

12. To respond quickly to any customer care-related questions and issues that may have been aired publicly in a seemingly innocuous tweet or blog post.

13. To give those unfamiliar with your brand a small, delightful taste of who you are.

When possible, offer something special for followers that may encourage them to become loyal “followers” offline.

14. To express yourself.

Most websites are pretty staid; they tend to take the safe route and end up looking and sounding alike. Tweeting enables you to reveal more of your brand’s distinct personality to followers and others, separating you from your competitors.

15. To stay ahead of the curve.

Gather ideas about new service or product offerings or opinions about how to improve on existing ones by engaging directly with customers and prospects.

You can be up and running on Twitter in minutes!
